“I hear giggling…”

Many of you know that I auditioned this year for the Praise Team at my church and was selected!  Hooray, right? Well, sure! I’ve previously shared that my constant prayer is the one Jabez prayed, so I’m always looking to go into new territory.

I love when God answers by taking me someplace new because I’m always up for an adventure.  Plus, I get a front-row seat in seeing His work unfold… and life can’t really get any better than that, right? The other thing I love is seeing where I can entertain God… He *always* finds something for me to do where my first reaction is “Really? REALLY, God? ::sigh:: …if you say so.”

Well, that’s what happened tonight…. Tonight was the first practice for the new praise Team season.  I was so determined to do well (I had to bring my game, ya know… being the ‘new kid’ and all) that I spent ALL DAY yesterday singing the songs we’d be practicing.  I sang so much that I actually caused myself to wake up this morning with rather irritated vocal chords.  They really weren’t happy with me.  A swollen throat that felt tight and sore and a scratchy-sounding voice.  Great… juuuuust great! In my zeal, I’d overworked my voice… can we call it a novice mistake? Maybe? Please? Anyway, I managed to sound rather decent during practice.  Right up until the time God decided He was going to have a bit of fun with me.

One of the songs we’re singing this Sunday is “Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone.”  I really love singing this because I have so much fun singing harmony to it!  Well, Jim (our Worship Leader) plans to sing this with one vocal singing melody for the verses and then we’d collectively sing the chorus.  He said he’d sing the first verse, then he’d leave it up to one of the other 3 of us to sing verse 2 or verse 3.  He was waiting for a volunteer….. ::cricket cricket:: Well, not me! I don’t ever sing the melody.  Whenever we sing this in church I always sing harmony and so its really tough to sing the melody.  Whenever I’ve tried, I automatically revert to harmony because its what I instinctively know. So…. Ready to laugh?

Yep. You guessed it! Now I tried to avoid it…. really I did! But God was relentless and was literally poking me in my kidneys until I spoke up! Soooooo, as long as my voice gets better by Sunday, I’m singing the 2nd verse of Amazing Grace….. SOLO!! (Can you hear Him giggling right about now? Oh sure. He thinks He’s soooooo funny) ::rolls eyes::  Glad I can entertain you and make you happy, God!

Ah, but that’s okay.  He has blessed me beyond description, so what’s a little bit of my time being nervous or uncomfortable in the grand scheme of it all, right?  And, if it all plays out… I’ll let you in on His bit of fun and post a video.  How’s that?  Hey, if I can do this for 400+ people, what’s a few more?

Hear that?  Yep…. He’s giggling again.  And, I’m happy He’s so pleased with me…..
